Before your visit, we need to verify insurance coverage, eligibility, and benefits. Authorization or pre-certification will also be obtained when required. This process usually takes 2-5 business days. To help you figure out your upcoming expense, here is a helpful chart for you to manage.

If possible, we do our best to reserve a surgery time that is convenient for the family. Time and date of surgery depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, doctor’s availability, urgency, and insurance authorization.
Please keep in mind that whenever possible, we try to schedule infants and children in the morning due to the strict dietary restrictions required on the day of the surgery.
Please arrive 2 hours before the scheduled surgery time for patient registration. Please go to the admitting desk of your designated hospital in order to register. Strict dietary restrictions MUST be followed.
- PATIENT MAY HAVE SOLID FOOD UP TO 8 HOURS BEFORE SURGERY
- PATIENT MAY HAVE NON-CLEAR LIQUIDS UP TO 6 HOURS BEFORE SURGERY
- PATIENT MAY HAVE CLEAR LIQUIDS UP TO 4 HOURS BEFORE SURGERY
- MUST HAVE NOTHING BY MOUTH FOR THE 4-HOUR PERIOD IMMEDIATELY BEFORE SURGERY
EXAMPLE: If Surgery is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.:
Between 7:00-11:00 a.m. – nothing by mouth
Between 5:00-7:00 a.m. – water/clear liquids only
Between 3:00 – 5:00 a.m. – non-clear liquids only
Before 3:00 a.m. – solid food and non-clear liquids only
Solid Foods & Non-Clear Liquids Include: Any food, milk, formula, breast milk, juice, nectar, vegetable juice, Jell-O, gum, candy, mints, etc.
Clear Liquids Include: Water, clear apple juice, sugar water, 7-Up, Pedialyte, balance salt solution, Original Gatorade (not any colored version)
**UNDIGESTED FOOD/DRINK COULD CAUSE PROBLEMS AND MAY REQUIRE RESCHEDULING THE SURGERY.
If your child is taking regular medication(s) for high blood pressure, heart problems, or seizure problems, your child should take that medication on the day of the scheduled procedure unless otherwise instructed by your physician. Oral diabetic medications should NOT be taken in the morning before surgery, unless otherwise instructed by the physician.

Contracted Health Plans typically pay a percentage of an allowable fee. After insurance pays, the patient is billed for co-insurance and any remaining deductible amounts. Payment in full is due upon receipt of the statement unless other arrangements have been made in advance.
If Pediatric Surgical Associates is not contracted with your insurance plan, our billing service will bill your insurance for you. However, the patient is responsible for full payment upon receipt of the statement unless other arrangements have been made in advance. For your convenience, Pediatric Surgical Associates accepts VISA, MasterCard, Discover and American Express for charges over $20.00.
