4 Home Remedies for Nasal Allergies

Natural Remedies to Help Ease Your Child’s Nasal Allergies Without Medication

We all know how seasonal allergies are annoying – and the drugs you pop to relieve the sneezing, sniffling, and itchy eyes. When it comes to your child’s allergies, relying on medication can be especially frustrating. While you can’t reduce the pollen in the air, you might be able to limit the number of drugs you give your child in response. Here are a few natural home remedies to try.

Eat an Anti-Inflammatory, Alkaline Diet

To reduce your risk for allergies and many other health problems, aim to provide your child with a healthy, anti-inflammatory, alkaline diet. Caring for the body with nutrient-dense foods gives the immune system the support it needs to fight off allergens. Here are some of the top foods to include:

  • Garlic
  • Lemons
  • Green leafy vegetables
  • Coconut milk
  • Almond butter and seeds
  • Gluten-free flours/grains

Neti Pot

This is one of the top go-to natural remedies for nasal allergies because it helps to clear the sinuses and remove congestion. When using a neti pot, make sure that the water is distilled and as sterile as possible. Avoid water from the tap since it has traces of chlorine and fluoride, which can aggravate the sinuses.

Try Apple Cider Vinegar

There’s little that apple cider vinegar can’t fix. Drinking a glass of water with a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and some fresh lemon juice is one of the best ways to wake up in the morning. At the first sign of an allergy attack, put one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in your child’s neti pot solution for a natural “sinus flush.”

Eucalyptus Oil and Frankincense Oil

Essential oils work by reducing inflammation and improving detoxification of harmful bacteria, parasites, microorganism, and toxins that can trigger an allergy attack. With eucalyptus oil, you can add it to your child’s neti pot, inhale it via a diffuser, or use it in your laundry detergent. Frankincense oil can be rubbed behind the ears, onto the chest, or diffused for the best results.
