Getting your children in the kitchen is a great way to spend the day, help them develop a positive relationship with food, learn about baking, and create some enjoyable experiences.

Chocolate Chip Cookies

You’ll probably have these ingredients in your cupboards already. This quick and easy recipe makes classic chocolate chip cookies that are great for all!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup white, oat, or spelt flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup sugar,
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar or coconut sugar
  • 1/3 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 2 tbsp milk of choice, plus more if needed
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1/4 tsp pure vanilla extract

Instructions

Combine all dry ingredients in a bowl, then stir in wet to form a dough. Form into one big ball, then either refrigerate at least 2 hours or freeze until the dough is cold. Once dough is chilled, preheat oven to 325 F. Form dough balls, and place on a greased baking tray. Bake 11 minutes on the center rack. Take out, cool, and enjoy!

Zucchini Bread

This loaf is fun to make, easy to bake, and delicious. You’ll be able to see the flecks of green zucchini in the load, but don’t worry, it doesn’t taste like vegetables!

Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 ​teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon (ground)
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 3/4 cups vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup almond milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 1/2 cups zucchini (grated)

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350 F. Lightly grease 4 mini-loaf pans with oil. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder, and ground cinnamon until well mixed. In another mixing bowl whisk together the sugar, oil, milk, and vanilla extract. Add the wet ingredients to the dry, along with half of the grated zucchini. Mix well. Portion the batter into the prepared loaf pans. Bake at 350 F for about 40 to 45 minutes, or until the loaves are golden brown.

Gingerbread Folk

Get the cookie cutters out and get creative by whipping up this easy (and tasty) recipe for gingerbread cookies!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/3 cups whole wheat flour
  • 3/4 cup unbleached all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tbsp cinnamon
  • 2 tsp ginger
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp cloves
  • 1/2 cup coconut oil, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup + 1 tbsp evaporated cane sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup fancy molasses (blackstrap is not recommended)
  • 1/2 tsp vanill

Instructions

In a bowl, combine the flours, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves. In a large bowl, cream together coconut oil and sugar. Add the water, molasses, and vanilla. Gradually add the flour mixture to the creamed sugar mixture. Preheat oven to 325 F. Roll out the dough. Use cookie cutters to cut the dough. Bake for 8-10 minutes, until all cookies are lightly browned around the edges.
