Now that the summer is winding down, it’s time for parents and children to start thinking about getting ready to go back to school. As with anything in life, it’s best to do a little preparation – especially before the first day back! This may not sound fun at all, but believe us, when the first school bus arrives, you’ll be happy you’re prepared!
- Establish a routine
Summer may have been the season of late nights and late wake-up calls, so the alarm clock going off first thing on back-to-school day can be unpleasant. Before school starts, get your kids back on the school schedule – at least a week or two before going back. This will help your kids wake up feeling ready and refreshed when it comes time to go back to school.
- Go back-to-school shopping
If your kids have grown significantly over summer, it could be time for new school attire and shoes. Make room for the new clothes by cleaning out everything that no longer fits. Donate these small clothes to a charity or a clothing bank. Additionally, be sure that your kid has everything he or she needs to go back to school – including paper, pens, pencils, lunchboxes, a water bottle, and any special pieces they need.
- Get a health checkup
Book an appointment with your child’s doctor for a general health checkup. This is a good opportunity to check your children are up to date with vaccinations, and that they receive any medical supplies or certificates they might need for school.
- Reconnect with friends
If your child has been busy or away all summer, now is the time to allow them time to reconnect with friends. This way, the first day back at school won’t be too daunting or nerve-wracking for him or her.
