Enjoy A Healthy Halloween With These Tips

Halloween Candy Safety

Halloween is almost here, and for anyone under the age of 13, that means one thing – candy! While letting your kids enjoy a ton of sugar one night of the year is a part of the Halloween tradition, putting some limits on the amount of candy your child eats this Halloween can make for a much better November 1st. Keep these kids Halloween candy health tips in mind so that your kids can enjoy the holiday without a bellyache.

  • Try to keep your kids from opening their candy until you get back home. If they must have a piece of candy, limit it to one piece that you closely inspect.
  • Before your child starts to enjoy their candy, inspect each piece. Throw away any candy that is opened or looks like it has been tampered with.
  • Prevent a tummy ache by allowing small children to only eat 2 to 3 pieces of candy at a time.
  • Do not allow your children to eat any homemade, unwrapped treats or fruit that is handed out.
  • Instead of allowing for extended trick or treating hours, consider throwing an end of the night Halloween party for your child and their friends so that they are not wandering around the neighborhood.
  • Keep in mind that some children are not able to enjoy traditional Halloween treats due to dietary restrictions. Be courteous of these restrictions and teach your children to be careful about who they are sharing their candy with.
  • When in doubt about the safety of a piece of candy, throw it out.
