How to Get Your Child Ready for Kindergarten

Get your child ready for kindergarten

Ways to Prepare Your Child for Kindergarten

Believe it or not, but parents need to do some prep work before they send their child to kindergarten. While, academically speaking, it seems crazy to get children ready for kindergarten, you will need to prepare him or her for entering the school system. Here are some things you can do to get your children ready.

Be Chatty

Parents who regularly interact with their kids build up their child’s vocabulary. Whether at the grocery store, park, or shopping mall, don’t underestimate the importance of these back-and-forth conversations. The more words your child recognizes, the more they will be able to excel.

Practice Independent Tasks

Your child will need to get used to being away from you and the home for certain hours each day. Be sure that your child can confidently:

  • Go to the bathroom
  • Dress
  • Eat lunch
  • Know their full name and phone number
  • Follow two-step directions

Practice Facts and Figures

Does your child know the basic shapes and colors? Can he/she count to ten? Will they recognize any numbers when written down? Work on these skills so that he/she will be prepared for numeracy education. For literacy readiness, be sure your child knows the alphabet, can write their own name, and knows how to rhyme.

Build your child’s confidence with these tips so that he/she is ready for kindergarten.
