As soon as your kids walk through the door, one of the first things they say is “I’m hungry”. With busy schedules, packaged foods make for the easiest snacks, although they often aren’t very nutritious. Being healthy doesn’t have to be time consuming. Check out these easy and healthy after school snacks!

  1. Apples & Peanut Butter. Slice a few apples and serve them with peanut butter. You get the complex carbs from the apple and protein from the peanut butter.
  2. Ants on a Log. Cut up some celery sticks, and spread peanut butter over the celery. Add raisins to the peanut butter and you have a fun snack for your little ones.
  3. Hummus & Pita Chips. Cut up some carrots, celery, and cucumbers and toast a pita. Cut the pita into smaller pieces and enjoy with some hummus. It’s easy, healthful, and delicious.
  4. Their easy, healthy, and you can easily customize them. Choose your favorite yogurt, fruit (fresh or dried), and granola.
  5. Trail Mix. Make your own trail mix. In a large bowl, combine dried fruit, nuts, and granola. Make enough to last a while and you can store it in your pantry. It’s great to have on hand if you’re pressed for time.
  6. Mini Fruit Pizzas. Use mini tortillas as your crust, a Greek yogurt-honey mix for your sauce, and fruit as your toppings.
  7. Cucumber Sandwiches. Cut up some cucumbers and use the slices as the bread for your sandwich. Slice some cheddar cheese, deli meat, and some tomatoes and assemble your sandwiches to your liking.
  8. Peanut Butter Banana Spirals. Combine peanut butter with yogurt to make a sauce. Spread the peanut butter sauce over a tortilla layer banana slices on the tortilla, sprinkle with cinnamon and roll. Cut into pieces and enjoy.
