How Are You Going To Celebrate Grandparents Day?

National Grandparents Day

How are you planning on celebrating your grandparents this week? Grandparents’ Day is celebrated on September 13th, and is the best time to show your grandma and grandpa just how much you care.

Grandparents play a vital role in children’s lives. Typically, they are able to provide time and patience when parents are busy. They can provide hours of stories about their life growing up, as well as teach everyone how to play interesting games. Grandparents can also be a source of much-needed spoiling, which can help children feel loved.

The goal of National Grandparents Day is to:
• Give grandparents the opportunity to show love for their grandchildren.
• To honor grandparents.
• To help children become more aware of the information, strength, and guidance that can be found in grandparents.

The beginnings of National Grandparents Day started with a housewife in Fayette County, West Virginia named Marian McQuade. Her main motivation for National Grandparents Day was to champion the cause of elderly grandparents in nursing homes. She also hoped to show grandchildren the heritage and wisdom that their grandparents could provide. In 1978, President Jimmy Carter proclaimed a yearly celebration National Grandparents Day on the fist Sunday after Labor Day.

All of us at Pediatric Surgical Associates in Orange County, California would like to encourage you to spend time with your grandparents this week to help celebrate Grandparents’ Day!
