Tasty Croissant Recipe So You Can Celebrate National Croissant Day!

National Croissant Day Recipe

Celebrate National Croissant Day on January 30th with this recipe!

Did you know that January 30th is National Croissant Day? You do now! While it may not be one of the most important national holidays, Croissant Day is definitely one of the delicious. Why not celebrate by whipping up a batch in your own kitchen?

Participate in National Croissant Day by creating your own flaky, buttery pastries with this croissant recipe. To make it, you’ll need:

  • 1 .25 ounce package of dry active yeast
  • 1 cup of 110 degree F water
  • ¾ cup of evaporated milk
  • 1 ½ teaspoons of salt
  • 1/3 cup of white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 5 cups of all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup of melted butter
  • 1 cup of diced, chilled butter

In a big bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warm water. Let stand until creamy (about 10 minutes). Stir in the milk, salt, sugar, one egg, one cup of flour, and melted butter. Beat until smooth.

In another bowl, stir your diced butter into the remaining flour. Mix so the butter breaks into smaller chunks, then pour your yeast mixture into this. Gently stir with a spatula, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least four hours.

Put this dough on a floured surface and knead to release any air. Split it into four parts, putting three back into the fridge.

Roll out your portion of the dough on a flour surface until it’s a 17-inch circle. With a knife, cut the circle into wedges. Roll each wedge loosely towards the point and place on an ungreased baking sheet with 1 ½ inches of space between each roll. Repeat with the remaining dough.

Let these croissants sit in the fridge for 2 hours, or until doubled in size. As they rise, preheat your oven to 325 degrees F and beat the remaining egg. Brush the croissants with the beaten egg, bake until golden (about 35 minutes), then enjoy!
