It’s National Fitness & Sports Month! Learn How To Get Your Kids More Active

Ways To Get Kids Active During National Fitness & Sports Month

Ensure that your kids get active in honor of National Fitness & Sports Month!

Physical activity is important. It helps to manage a healthy weight, reduce the risk of serious diseases such as diabetes and heart disease, and combat mental disorders such as anxiety and depression. However, most of us, adults and children alike, aren’t getting enough exercise. In fact, only a third of children are physically active every day. In honor of National Fitness and Sports Month, be sure to encourage your kids to get out and play more. Check out these ways to get your kids more active.

Try New Things.

Your kids may love soccer or karate, but until they try it out, they’ll never know. Ask your kids if there’s a sport or activity that they’d like to try and sign them up! It will help get your child involved in a physical activity that they love doing. Exercise is less of a chore when your child enjoys doing it.

Get Involved.

Rather than watching from the sideline, play with your kids. After dinner, help your kids practice their free throws or backhand swing, or go on a weekend hike as a family. Family fitness helps strengthen familial ties and set an example for your kids to exercise more through adulthood.

Limit Tech Use.

Computers, smartphone, and tablets are a part of everyday life, but they encourage a sedentary lifestyle. Make an effort to reduce the time that your kids spend playing on their devices. Encourage your kids to get out and play instead.

Encourage Your Kids.

Ensure that you give your kids the support that they need to succeed. Give them positive reinforcements when they exercise. When you praise and encourage your child, it helps them to keep improving.
